Listening to
a changing
world.
A Circle develops works in music, sound installation and artistic research. They bring inherited forms into contact with the material realities of the present.

The practice
Music carries the traces of the worlds that made it. What happens when we listen to those traces through the landscapes, materials and transformations of our own time?

Voice, piano, melting ice & live electronics
postWinterreise
Schubert’s Winterreise begins to dissolve. Its twenty-four songs fragment at a rate correlated with two centuries of glacial ice melt, unfolding within a sound installation of ice, water, metal, wood and glass.
Voice and piano become vibrations within these materials. Contact microphones and hydrophones return their transformed sound to the audience, alongside the sounds of melting, cracking and flowing.
Who will we become in a world where winter itself is becoming a memory?

Within the work
Matter becomes
an instrument.
The cyclical sound environment lets us listen from inside the installation’s materials. A resonant panel receives the falling water. A basin carries vibrations through its surface. Ice changes the sound as it changes its own form.
The installation is both a source of sound and a means of transforming it. The performance unfolds through these physical processes.
